Carolina West Wireless Sponsors Wilkes Community College's Recogition Reception

March 10, 2010

Carolina West Wireless (CWW), a North Carolina wireless company, recently sponsored Wilkes Community College’s (WCC) Annual Volunteer Recognition Reception. The event was held at the Walker Center in the Lakey Ballroom on the campus of WCC.

“We want our volunteers to feel special year-round but this event is our major opportunity to let all our volunteers know that we appreciate everything they do for the college, the Walker Center and MerleFest,” said WCC’s Volunteer Coordinator, Debbie Cangiolosi.

Carolina West Wireless and Wilkes Community College have partnered together on numerous events in years past and plan to continue their shared support with plans for future endeavors to come.

“Wilkes Community College, its employees and its volunteers are an invaluable asset not only to the communities here in Wilkes County but in the surrounding counties as well,” said Casey Clement, Director of Sales for Carolina West Wireless. “Over the years we’ve developed a relationship and mutual friendship with the folks at the college and have enjoyed the benefits of working with such an outstanding group of people.

“The college itself provides a host of potential opportunities for those seeking a higher education and the employees and the volunteers who help turn those opportunities into realities deserve a lot of credit and appreciation for their dedication and hard work.”

The highlight of each year’s event is the presentation of the Chloe Sturdivant Award for Volunteer Excellence. The 2009 award was presented to Mona McRae. Mona is a WCC alum and active volunteer with various areas of the college, the Walker Center, and MerleFest.
Recently, she has become more active with the MerleFest Volunteer Relations Team by assisting with the year-round management of the application and assignment process, being available during the festival to assist the volunteer coordinator as needed and developing the Volunteer Spotlight section of the festival’s electronic newsletter.

“Mona volunteers simply because she loves it,” said Cangiolosi, “Her year-round work promotes and encourages volunteerism and I am always impressed with how much time, effort, and heart she puts into everything from tedious record-keeping to the creative activity of developing our Volunteer Spotlights. We are so proud to be able to honor her work.”

In keeping with the spirit of the event the local band, “The Neighbors” volunteered their time to provide entertainment during the evening. Volunteer gifts and doors prizes were donated by Southern Candle, Stillwaters Salon and Day Spa, Trail Dog Outfitters, MerleFest, The John A. Walker Center, WCC Bookstore and WCC Endowment Corporation.
