Carolina West Wireless Strengthens Network with New Technology Deployment

July 25, 2011

Carolina West Wireless (CWW), recently announced the continued enhancement and evolution of its wireless network through the deployment of Data Only Module (DOM) cards to sites throughout its local network.

The installation of DOM cards will provide 3G EvDO capability to more rural areas of Carolina West Wireless coverage area, increasing site capacity and improving download speeds across CWW’s local network.

“It is an exciting time in the wireless industry and such a positively charged environment here within Carolina West,” said Paul Feldmann, Executive Director of Engineering for Carolina West Wireless. “As technology advances and consumer demands increase, our goal must be to make every effort to stay ahead of the curve in our network and its capabilities. We are in the midst of an upgrade that will benefit both our wireless internet speeds and our customer experience.”

The wireless industry has grown increasingly more data dependent with consumers choosing the highly developed and user friendly advantages of smart phone technology over standard mobile devices. Data centric devices including smart phones, USB modems and tablets offer advanced operating systems with high speed processors, more memory and high-resolution touch screens that allow consumers the freedom and flexibility to connect where and when they want.

The increased dependency on data by consumers also requires wireless providers to constantly strengthen and maintain their network infrastructure to accommodate the large amounts of data consumed by users.

Currently about 18 percent of Carolina West Wireless local network is covered by a 3G EvDO solution with this latest phase of 3G EvDO deployment expanding to include over 70 percent of its coverage area.

“The scope of the 3G EvDO project itself will offer a 3G footprint not seen in our market place to date,” continued Feldmann. “Following that we have a core expansion project that will further add the capacity required by the present demand. It seems every day we’re making great improvements in our market and I am absolutely happy I can be a part of it.”

Areas impacted by this most recent phase of DOM deployments include North Wilkesboro, Siloam, Thurmond, Dobson, Boomer, Traphill, Moravian Falls, Conover, Hickory, Vale, Valdese, South Morganton, State Road, Hiddenite, Mount Airy, Elkin and Ferguson.

Carolina West Wireless was formed in 1991 and owned by a partnership consisting of Skyline Telephone, Surry Telephone and Wilkes Telephone. Headquartered in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, CWW provides innovative technology including data and mobile services, the latest wireless equipment and competitive wireless plans with nationwide coverage.
