North Carolina Senator Richard Burr visits Carolina West Wireless

September 13, 2010

North Carolina Senator Richard Burr met with Carolina West Wireless (CWW) CEO Slayton Stewart Friday afternoon during a visit through the foothills of Western North Carolina.

Burr met briefly with Stewart and members of his staff for about an hour covering a variety of topics related specifically to small businesses and their role in shaping the future of North Carolina’s economy.

“We had a very good and a very positive meeting,” said Stewart of the senator’s visit. “Senator Burr’s an advocate of small businesses and the positive economic impact they can have on communities across our state.

“Likewise it was a great opportunity for us to voice some of our concerns specifically related to the telecommunications industry and get the senator’s outlook in North Carolina.”

Friday’s visit by the senator was not the first to CWW. Burr made a brief stop at CWW during his first senate campaign.

“We’ve developed a relationship with Senator Burr and his staff over the years since his first visit,” Stewart continued. “We’ve kept in touch with his office in regard to political and economic changes within our industry as well as issues affecting small businesses at the federal, state and local levels.

“He and his staff have always been forthcoming and helpful,” Stewart added. “They have given us—and I’m sure other businesses across our state—a platform to be heard and to discuss relative issues that could have a potential economic impact on our state.”

Burr keeps an active presence and serves on numerous committees in the senate including the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee where he is the ranking member. In addition, Burr’s also a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee as well as the Energy and Natural Resources and Indian Affairs Committees. Burr also plays an active role locally as a Board Member of Brenner Children’s Hospital.
